Mō Mātou

Te Tumatakahuki reflects the binding stitch used in tukutuku panels, the crucial thread that holds the vertical and horizontal kākaho together, giving the panel its strength and stability.

Our name is our function.

Te Tūmatakahuki combines the strands of our hapū, their aspirations and weaves them into purpose and collective action. We create strength by ensuring that the aspirations of our people are supported by relationship, shared understanding, and kotahitanga.

When our people work together with clear intent, the outcome carries a strength and memory that outlasts individuals. It becomes something our whānau and hapū can stand upon for generations to come.

Te Tumatakahuki is the mandated mana whenua forum for twelve Raukawa hapū in Horowhenua and is constituted as a charitable incorporated society.

Through whakapapa and kotahitanga, we bring together:

Ngāti Turanga, Ngāti Rākau, Ngāti Te Au, Ngāti Takihiku, Ngāti Ngārongo, Ngāti Whakatere, Ngāti Pareraukawa, Ngāti Huia ki Poroutawhao, Ngāti Huia ki Matau, Ngāti Kikopiri, Ngāti Hikitanga, and Ngāti Wehi Wehi.

Together, we provide a collective platform through which hapū can engage on matters that affect our whenua, wai, wāhi tapu, communities, and future generations. Through our collective leadership, advocacy, partnerships, and investments, we seek to create opportunities and outcomes that strengthen our hapū. Whether protecting our taonga, influencing decisions, securing resources, or supporting community aspirations, our focus remains the same: ensuring the benefits of our collective efforts are returned to and shared amongst our hapū, both now and our mokopuna mō apōpō.
